Inspiration
My surroundings really enhance my desire to paint.
My surroundings really enhanced my desire to paint, and when the children left home, with a bit more time, I began by painting in watercolour the flowers, animals and the wonderful Devon countryside. I would spend every possible hour creating, experimenting and improving my work, always aiming to fill my paintings with light and colour.
I was eventually given the opportunity to exhibit at Dainton Park Golf Club as part of Devon Open Studios. Gradually, I was invited to exhibit in various prestigious galleries and exhibitions, including as Lead Artist at The RHS at Rosemoor. Eventually, friends offered me the special space of a gallery/studio in Totnes, which was very successful over a number of years and where I gained many followers. Recently, for a couple of years, I joined with other artists to run a gallery in North Street, Ashburton, where I successfully participated in Open Studios in 2017.
When I decided I wanted to paint in oils some years ago, I joined a lovely group, enjoying friendships which have arisen from this and benefit from the generous guidance of mentor Gahan Oliver, who shares her extensive knowledge of this medium without jeopardising or compromising my own style of painting. She has encouraged so many other local successful artists. I am still constantly experimenting with techniques, and, of course, light and colour, true to my original inspiration.
